Grade 9: Freshman Foundations

Students will investigate career clusters through the lens of their personal goals, priorities, aptitudes, and interests with the goal of helping them make informed decisions about their careers. Students will increase preparation and mastery skills for workplace success. Students will complete interactive assessment modules consisting of hands-on, engaging activities that focus on six key skill areas: communication, enthusiasm and attitude, teamwork, networking, critical thinking and problem solving, and professionalism. Students will be graded on Pass/Fail. Students must choose Career Exploration during the course selection period. Depending on the program and completion of hours per week, this course may be eligible to earn up to 5 course credits on their high school transcript. Freshman Foundations is a course designed to support a successful transition to the high school setting. Students will be taught organizational and learning strategies, time management, effective use of technology, and note-taking skills. In addition, the course emphasizes self-identification and social-emotional learning strategies. When needed, students will also receive support in other content areas to promote overall academic growth. Test preparation skills and strategies will be included, with an emphasis on preparing for state, district, national, and CollegeBoard assessments. This class is offered to students whose IEP indicates the need for such instruction. Grades 9-11: Academic Foundations 5 Credits 5 Credits
