Digital Communications Magnet Course Progression

Grade 11: Issues in Digitial Studies The course will explore the impact of technology on a wide array of human affairs, analyzing ethical dilemmas in communications from a humanities and social science perspective. Students will discuss issues in digital media including but not limited to journalistic integrity, ethics, copyright issues, e communication and project management. It will provide students an understanding of core cultural themes related to contemporary digital issues, including access, surveillance, privacy, participation, digital research, the challenges of sustainability and global citizenship. With the prevalence and immediacy of digital media, students will learn to examine digital products in diverse contexts, such as business, politics, education and not for-profits. Students will fine-tune skills in research, writing and product development. distributing and circulating digital copy, with a focus on creative storytelling, business writing acumen, marketing and public relations. Students will also learn the foundations of digital reporting, from news lead writing to conducting feature interviews. The course will also encourage students to explore the social implications and ethics of social media distribution, and the conflicts inherent in audience-driven, crowd-sharing platforms. 5 Credits Grade 10: Digital Writing and Storytelling This course introduces students to reading/writing skills necessary for the modern, digital workplace. While students may be well versed in texting and social messaging as means of personal communication, they will gain the skills and understand the principles necessary for producing professional digital copy adaptable to a wide and ever-evolving array of digital platforms and industries. Stockton GAH 1280 Introduction to Digital Writing Students will examine how social media platforms drive communication and vice versa. Besides writing production, students will learn about
