Digital Communications Magnet Course Progression

Grade 12: Capstone / Field Work in Digitial Studies

This course is designed to develop advanced, industry-standard skills required for careers in marketing, public relations, advertising, digital design and production. Students will develop mastery in the variety of software and equipment needed for proficient fieldwork in digital and social media. Students will work towards achieving community and school goals in marketing, public relations, advertising and digital design. The course will culminate in a field work experience which may include an internship or other real-world digital media opportunities aimed at developing the student’s professional portfolio. The course will also culminate in the completion of a digital work portfolio showcasing achievement throughout the magnet program.

Digital Communications Elective

Grade 12: Honors Digital Video Production & Editing (formerly honors digital video production)

The continued exploration of theories and practices of pre- and post production techniques and aesthetics. Students move towards mastery of key concepts, functions, hardware and software associated with non-linear editing, audio manipulation, on-camera performance, cinematography and vocal acuity. Students are introduced to advanced concepts in digital communications such as effects, filters, fine cuts and project exportation. Emphasis is also placed on school-wide public relations and community contact.
