DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS

Students will manipulate professional hardware and software aimed at pre and post-production work, computer graphics and web design. They will also grapple with rigorous academic concepts and technology-adjacent philosophies, from ethics and law to social responsibility and sustainability . Magnet students will graduate poised to tackle and lead in a variety of professional contexts. The program will also challenge students to build our school’s digital brands, with opportunities for extracurricular projects and community service. Magnet students may earn up to 20 dual-credits as Oakcrest works cooperatively with Stockton University’s brand new Digital Studies program. The program will culminate in a field-work internship and the creation of a digital portfolio. This course will introduce the fundamental principles and practices involved in digital communications. Students will survey digital media and examine each from social, cultural, economic and artistic perspectives. Topics include the impact of digital technology on culture and communication, the sociological effects of technology on the individual and community, as well as emerging philosophies of and about technology. From radio, TV and film to public relations and journalism; from digital advertising, marketing and web design to social media; from usability to the emergence of coding and crypto; students will develop digital products, create digital content and collaborate on creative solutions to online problems. Magnet students will begin the development of a digital portfolio that will remain with them through their time in this program. 5 Credits Grade 9: Introduction to Digital Communications
