FRESHMAN FOUNDATIONS Freshman Foundations is a course designed to support a successful transition to the high school setting. Students will be taught organizational and learning strategies, time management, effective use of technology, and note-taking skills. In addition, the course emphasizes self-identification and social-emotional learning strategies. When needed, students will also receive support in other content areas to promote overall academic growth. Test preparation skills and strategies will be included, with an emphasis on preparing for state, district, national, and CollegeBoard assessments. This class is offered to students whose IEP indicates the need for such instruction. Grade 9, 5 Credits ACADEMIC FOUNDATIONS Academic Foundations is a course in which grade level content in the core academic areas will be taught and/or reinforced through the use of mini lessons that correspond to curricular instruction being offered in the student’s core subject areas. In addition, test preparation skills and strategies will be provided with an emphasis on preparing the student for the PARCC assessment in terms of content and format. Finally, the student will be taught organizational and study skills which include: problem solving, critical reading, organizational and learning strategies, time management, use of technology, note taking, and post high school planning transition skills. The expectation is that students will be able to apply newly acquired skills to become more effective learners. This class is offered to students whose I.E.P. states the need for such instruction. Grades 10-11, 5 Credits FOUNDATIONS FOR THE FUTURE Foundations for the Future is a dynamic course with specialized mini-lessons designed to equip seniors with vital real-life skills. The course comprises units that cover career exploration, job seeking and workplace skills, as well as life skills, financial literacy, and civic responsibility. This comprehensive program prepares students for adulthood, fostering self-sufficiency and community engagement. In addition, test preparation skills and strategies will be provided with an emphasis on supporting students for the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessments (NJGPA) in terms of content and format. The expectation is that students will be able to apply newly acquired skills to become more life long learners and contributing members of society. This class is offered to students whose IEP states the need for such instruction. Grade 12, 5 Credits
