Grades 11-12: Honors Commercial Carpentry

Honors Commercial Carpentry leads to successful transition into postsecondary education for careers in carpentry and related fields, such as construction management, architecture, and others. Students are taught the safe use of hand and power tools common to the industry. Students will become proficient in assembling and installing various types of residential construction components that are current with industry standards, including rigging and job-estimating procedures, forming foundations, framing floors, walls, ceiling, roofs, trusses, roofing materials, stairs, exterior doors and windows, decks, and porches. Students must pass the Career Connections assessment, wear proper safety boots and attend a trip to the carpenters professional training center to be eligible to apply for the one year apprenticeship credit for the course. Heavy machines will be used in this course. This course may be repeated for credit. 5 Credits Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation and/or 80 or above in Into to Carpentry and Residential Carpentry. Honors weighting can only be applied once.
