Environmental Science Magnet Course Progression

Grades 11-12: Sustainability Internship 5 Credits Prerequisite: Students must be recommended for this course by a Science teacher as they will be expected to work independently and outside of the classroom, as well as during the summer months. Honors Sustainability Internship is a third or fourth year elective class for all students interested in learning about and building sustainable systems. Students will begin the year by setting up and maintaining sustainable systems around the school such as: aerobic and vermicomposting systems, hydroponic and aquaponic systems, living walls, fish tanks, etc. Students in this course will work closely with the CCHS Green-Team in leadership roles to plan, design, and build various green initiatives that will be used by Science and Environmental classes and the greater CCHS community throughout the year. Grades 11-12: Environmental Capstone Honors Environmental Capstone is a third or fourth year elective course for students enrolled in the Cedar Creek Environmental Science Magnet. In this capstone course, students may work independently or in teams to design and develop a novel solution to an environmental or a sustainability issue facing citizens of the 21st Century. Students will address an issue, develop an effective experimental approach to address it, perform an experiment or build a prototype, and collect and analyze data in order to present findings. This course will run concurrently with Honors Engineering Design and Development. Prerequisite: Students must be recommended for this course by a Science teacher as they will be expected to work independently and outside of the classroom. 5 Credits
