Environmental Science Magnet Course Progression

Grades 11-12: Honors Marine & Wildlife Sciences

5 Credits Prerequisite:Environmental Systems and Sustainability, or the recommendation of the Science Supervisor. Honors Marine & Wildlife Sciences is a third or fourth year elective course for students enrolled in the Cedar Creek Environmental Science Magnet. This class will take an in-depth look at the science and management of wildlife and marine species. Course topics include, but are not limited to, biomes, natural selection and ecological succession, natural and manmade aquatic systems, wildlife reserves, fish and game anatomy, population dynamics and controls, sustainability, and human and wildlife interactions. Honors Engineering Design and Development (EDD) is a third or fourth year elective course for students enrolled in the Cedar Creek Engineering or Environmental Science Magnet. In this capstone course, students work in teams to design and develop an original solution to a valid open-ended technical problem by applying the engineering design process. Students perform research to choose, validate, and justify a technical problem. After carefully defining the problem, teams design, build, and test their solutions while working closely with industry professionals who provide mentoring opportunities. Finally, student teams present and defend their original solution to an outside panel. Grades 11-12: Honors Engineering Design & Development 5 Credits Prerequisite: Honors Principles of Engineering (POE), Honors Environmental Sustainability, or the recommendation of the Science Supervisor. Students in 11th grade must have a teacher recommendation to enroll in this course.
