Engineering Magnet Course Progression

Grade 9: Honors Introduction to Engineering Design

Honors Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) is the first course for students enrolled in the Cedar Creek Engineering Magnet. The major focus of IED is the design process and its application. Through hands-on projects, students apply engineering standards and document their work. Students use industry standard 3D modeling software to help them design solutions to solve proposed problems, document their work using an engineer’s notebook, and communicate solutions to peers and members of the professional community.

Grades 9-12: AP Computer Science Priniciples

AP Computer Science Principles is designed to be equivalent to a first semester introductory college computing course. The course introduces students to the creative aspects of programming, abstractions, algorithms, large data sets, the Internet, cybersecurity, and how computing impacts our world. Students will develop the computational thinking skills needed to fully exploit the power of digital technology and help build a strong foundation in core programming and problem-solving.

5 Credits

Prerequisite: Algebra 1

Grade 10: Honors Principals of Engineering

Honors Principles of Engineering (POE) is the second course for students enrolled in the Cedar Creek Engineering Magnet. This survey course exposes students to major concepts they will encounter in a post-secondary engineering course of study. Topics include mechanisms, energy, statics, materials, and kinematics. They develop problem-solving skills and apply their knowledge of research and design to create solutions to various challenges, document their work and communicate solutions.

5 Credits

Prerequisite: Honors Introduction to Engineering Design (IED), or the recommendation of the Science Supervisor.
