CONCEPTS OF INTEGRATED SCIENCE

Grade 9, 5 Credits

CONCEPTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE This is a basic skills course designed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of environmental chemistry. Students will gain an understanding of matter, atoms, molecules, mixtures, compounds, acids and bases, chemical reactions, and the periodic table. They will also explore chemical processes occurring in the environment which are impacted by man’s activities. Grades 10-11 5 Credits This is a basic skills course designed to help students develop an understanding of how the study of living things has evolved through the use of investigation, observation and the accumulation of verifiable knowledge. Students should begin to realize the impact biology has on their everyday lives as well as society. They are also encouraged to inquire, experience and integrate the biological principles they have learned into their everyday life. Grade 11 5 Credits accessible ways. Through guided activities such as observing color changes in simple chemical reactions, exploring everyday forces and motion, examining local weather patterns, and modeling natural events like volcanic eruptions or coastal storms, students develop an understanding of how science explains the world around them. Learners design basic investigations, build and test simple models, collect and interpret data, and use evidence to solve practical problems. Through structured labs, demonstrations, and collaborative projects, the course supports the development of foundational scientific and engineering practices while helping students recognize how science relates to daily life. This course is designed for students in the REACH program. The course will introduce students to elementary Spanish vocabulary and basic language patterns through the teaching of the culture and heritage of Spanish speaking countries. In addition to cultural awareness, students will also develop basic speaking, writing, listening and reading skills in the Spanish language.
