GEHRHSD Curriculum Guide 2026-27

In this hands-on, project-based science course, students will explore the world around them through real-life questions and investigations that connect chemistry, physics, earth science, and engineering. From uncovering why fireworks burst in different colors to testing the safety of soda, predicting volcanic eruptions, and examining how hurricanes shape New Jersey’s coastline, students will discover how science explains local and global phenomena. Along the way, they’ll design experiments, build models, collect and analyze data, and use evidence to solve problems— from protecting passengers in car crashes to designing safe roller coasters and circuits. Through labs, field trips, and collaborative projects, students will build the scientific and engineering skills needed for success in high school and beyond while seeing how science connects to their everyday lives. Integrated Science Grade 9, 5 Credits This rigorous, inquiry-driven science course challenges students to think critically and investigate complex questions across chemistry, physics, earth science, and engineering. Students will explore phenomena such as the emission spectra of fireworks, chemical safety in everyday substances, the forces behind earthquakes and volcanoes, and the impacts of climate change on coastal New Jersey. Emphasis is placed on designing and conducting sophisticated experiments, analyzing quantitative data, applying mathematical reasoning, and using the engineering design process to develop innovative solutions. Through advanced labs, field investigations, collaborative projects, and real-world problem-solving, students will deepen their understanding of scientific principles, refine their analytical and communication skills, and prepare for success in future honors-level science courses and STEM opportunities.
