SMALL BUSINESS ENTREPRENEURSHIP Grades 10-12, 5 Credits

Successful completion of this course will enable students to fulfill the graduation requirement of 2.5 credits in financial literacy. the stock market and investing will also be presented. Additionally, students will participate in a national investment competition in the spring. The overall goal of this course is to improve student financial literacy. This course is designed for students who wish to learn or expand their knowledge of the stock market, investing, and finance within the global economy. Students will learn how financial markets work. They will also learn how to design a personal finance plan, select among saving and investment options, locate and use financial data, and recognize and protect against investment fraud. Students will use math in calculating formulas such as percentage change, price-to-earnings ratios, and investment yields. This course also gives students the opportunity to use Microsoft Excel as an analysis and productivity tool. Current issues involving Do you have what it takes to start a new business? Do you have an idea for a business but need the tools to get started? This course will provide you with the core skills you need to become successful. In this course you will study the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs. You will also learn about self employment and basic economic concepts related to small businesses, such as competition and production. This course will also walk you through the steps of setting up a business, including developing a business plan, a mission and a vision, attracting investors, and marketing your company. As a capstone, students will create a business plan based on their researched business idea. STOCK MARKET AND INVESTMENTS Grades 10-12, 5 Credits
