Forensics
Grades 11-12, 5 Credits
This course studies how forensic scientists assist in solving crimes. Topics include the history of forensic science, the crime scene, physical and biological evidence collection and analysis, microscopic investigations, hair and fiber analysis, determination of the time of death, and insect study. DNA evidence is also covered, along with computer, document, and voice recognition as evidence. Disclaimer: Some of the course content may be graphic.

Oceanography Grades 11-12, 5 Credits

Oceanography is an elective course that will introduce students to chemistry, geology, and physical and biological processes of the world’s oceans, marginal seas, and coastal zones. The multidisciplinary character of oceanography is stressed. Introductory principles in all disciplines are introduced. The goal of this course is an integrated understanding of how oceans work.

Sports Medicine Grades 11-12, 5 Credits

Sports medicine is designed for students who are interested in the study of anatomy and physiology and how sports affect the human body systems. Areas of emphasis include the study of anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology, athletic injury evaluation, rehabilitation of athletic injuries, and pharmacology. The human skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems are covered in great detail. Lab experiences are an essential learning tool and include blood pressures and heart rates, reflexes, joint assessments, ankle and various taping techniques, splinting and wrappings, and dissections.
