Science

Grades 11-12: Honors Physics

5 Credits

The honors course is geared to students who plan to attend college in a STEM-related field. Topics include measurement and problem-solving, velocity, acceleration using kinematics in one and two dimensions, universal gravitation, Newton's Laws of Motion and forces, work, energy, power, systems of particles including waves and sound, linear momentum, circular motion, rotation, oscillations, gravitation, electrostatics, conductors, capacitors, dielectrics, electric circuits, and potential difference. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Honors Biology or a teacher recommendation from CP Biology. AP Physics C is a college-level, calculus-based physics course designed for students with strong preparation in mathematics and science. The course is divided into two semesters: AP Physics C: Mechanics and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism. Students develop a deep conceptual understanding of physical laws and apply calculus to model and solve complex problems involving motion, forces, energy, momentum, electric and magnetic fields, circuits, and electromagnetic phenomena. Laboratory investigations emphasize data analysis, experimental design, and the connection between theory and real-world systems. Successful students are prepared for the AP examinations and advanced STEM coursework at the college level. Prerequisites: Calculus (concurrent enrollment in Calculus is acceptable; prior completion is recommended) Teacher recommendation or demonstrated strong proficiency in mathematics and science Grades 11-12: AP Physics C 5 Credits
