ACTING FOR THE CAMERA CCHS Grades 9-12, 5 Credits
This course is designed to develop intermediate level skills in ballet, modern, and jazz techniques along with continuing to develop knowledge in dance history, composition, theory and analysis. The primary emphasis will be on refining technical and performance skills while learning the art of dance composition; creating original dance works of art. Students have the responsibility to participate in informal performances and the annual spring dance concert. A minimum of two dance performances are required. This course will follow N. J. core curriculum content standards for Performing Arts /Dance. Proper dance attire is required. This course focuses on the craft of acting for film and digital media. Students will explore a variety of on-camera performance styles including commercial acting, silent film acting, music video performance, short film scenes, and content creation for social media platforms. In addition to acting, students will study film as an art form to better understand how storytelling translates to the screen. Emphasis will be placed on developing authentic performances for the camera, understanding framing and movement, and adapting stage techniques for screen work. The course culminates in a portfolio project featuring self-taped auditions that may be used for professional opportunities or postsecondary acting program applications. DANCE COMPOSITION Grades 9-12, 5 Credits
This course may be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: Audition and/or by dance teacher recommendation
DANCE ENSEMBLE
Grades 9-12, 5 Credits
This course is designed to develop advanced level skills in ballet, modern, and jazz techniques along with continuing to develop knowledge in dance history, composition, theory and analysis. Students will refine technical and performance skills while developing their voice as a choreographer. They will have opportunities to create, rehearse and present original dance works of art in annual dance concerts. A minimum of two dance performances are required. This course will follow N. J. core curriculum content standards for Performing Arts /Dance. Proper dance attire is required.
