HONORS DIGITAL VIDEO AND EDITING

Grades 10-12, 5 Credits

Honors Digital Video and Editing is designed to allow students to continue to develop and master the art of media and the skills related to media production. The focus of this course will be on the importance of mastering pre-production planning and preparation. Students will also work towards mastery of videotaping and filmmaking skills, editing, on-camera performance, interview skills, portfolio development, writing for television, advanced camera operation, vocal acuity, as well as school wide public relations and contact with community and business leaders.

This course can be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: Television Broadcast and/or teacher recommendation.

The Film Institute

Juniors and Seniors are eligible to enroll in this Institute. Units of study allow students to research, write about, and create works of art that reflect their understanding and assimilation of cinema and the literary works affecting it. Via a heavy focus on the business and community links, students will be given a foundation for pursuing future careers, internships and networks in the field. Upon completion of the Film Institute, students will have created screenplays and a number of short video projects as well as mastered the art of film criticism. Motion Pictures through the Years is an elective course available only to students participating in the Film Institute. The course will familiarize students with the history of motion pictures. The focus will be on the evolution of cinema from early concepts (such as Leonardo Da Vinci’s camera obscura) to a multi billion dollar industry. Periods touched on will include the silent era, German Expressionism, the Golden Age of Cinema, the New Hollywood and the Independent Age. The focus is on genre and the social and political implications of cinema, providing students with an understanding of the historical significance of the style and subject matter of the art. Special emphasis will be placed on theme, symbolism, acting, and writing. MOTION PICTURES THROUGH THE YEARS AHS Grades 11-12, 10 Credits
